JOHANNISHOF CHARTA RIESLING 2014
91 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"This originated in the Geisenheimer Kläuserweg. It smells pungently and intriguingly like a pine needle-littered forest floor, though there are also intimations of the lemon and apple that then juicily inform a firm palate.

At barely 11% alcohol, it is delightfully lightweight, even though residual sugar here is only barely above the threshold of legal Trockenheit. The earthy, woodsy notes signaled in the nose reprise subtly along with saliva-inducing salinity in a lingering, clear, juicy finish."

JOHANNISHOF "V" RIESLING KABINETT 2014
88 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016

"This unabashedly sweet Kabinett from the Einzellage Vogelsang (whose mention on labels is prohibited by the Rheingau VDP) is scented and favored with ripe pear shadowed by its distilled counterpart. Satiny in texture and soothing as well as buoyant in finish, this is long on fruit and delightfully delicate if not especially complex."

JOHANNISHOF "MINERAL" RIESLING TROCKEN 2014
88 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"From quartzite-rich sites in Geisenheim and Johannisberg, this cuvée is scented with village-typical pine resin, a hint of sweat, and anticipations of apricot and apple that then dominate a firm, buoyant palate. Those fruits stay juicy and the saline, animal notes interesting and mouthwatering in a seriously sustained finish."

JOHANNISHOF "FINESSE" RIESLING FEINHERB 2014
89 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"Originating largely in Geisenheim vineyards, at 10.5% alcohol this weighs-in a whole degree lower than the corresponding generic trocken and evinces distinct though well-integrated sweetness that nicely supports its dominant pear fruit. Hints of pine nut and pear pip lend attractively piquant counterpoint on a polished, buoyant palate and in a satisfyingly soothing finish that incorporates a modicum of saliva-inducing salinity and, unlike many of this years generic feinherb Rieslings, doesnt sacrifice clarity or primary juiciness to low-level rot."

JOHANNISHOF "S" RIESLING KABINETT FEINHERB 2014
90 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"The "S here stands for the formidable Schwarzenstein Einzellage which the Rheingau VDP insisted until this year could not be mentioned on a members label. A lovely, high-toned nose mingles almond extract and rowan, quince preserves and pear distillate. The buoyant, soothing mid-palate is generously fruity, its discreet sweetness nicely supportive, while stony underpinnings add interest to a juicily sustained finish."

JOHANNISHOF RUDESHEIMER KLOSTERLAY RIESLING KABINETT FEINHERB 2014
89 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"Luscious apple and peach are nicely supported by significant sweetness in this silken-textured, soothingly-sustained effort. The rounded impression here is not especially vintage-typical, but Eser says it resulted not from any acid adjustment but simply because he was able to pick this site late. (And despite its sweetness, this finished with 12% alcohol - high must weight being a more obvious result of late harvest.) The results are charming and plenty of fun to drink, even if not very complex."

JOHANNISHOF AUF DER HOLL RIESLING TROCKEN 2014
88 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"From a newly-registered upper plateau of the Hölle well-suited by water retention and ventilation to lower must-weights, this was raised in cask and carries an unobtrusive hint of oak. Brown spice-tinged quince and mirabelle are shadowed in the nose by their distilled counterparts; then saturate a polished, buoyant but expansive palate, leading to a finish of satisfyingly juicy, subtly spicy persistence."

JOHANNISHOF JOHANNISBERGER HOLLE RIESLING GG 2014
90 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"This reflects the stoniest, most quartzite-rich as well as steepest portions of the Einzellage Hölle. Scents of fresh and distilled purple plum set the stage for a voluminous mid-palate impression marked by considerable inner-mouth volatility, though also by satisfying juiciness. Lemon and peach, peach kernel and toasted pine nut further enrich and add counterpoint to this silken-textured Riesling that finishes with impressive grip."

JOHANNISHOF RUDESHEIMER BERG ROTTLAND RIESLING GG 2014
91 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"Aromas and flavors of very ripe peach and almond are accompanied by smoky and ashen notes as well as restrained volatile elements that add to the penetrance of the nose and the billowing sense of volume on this bottlings silken palate. Pit and toasted nut piquancy serve for counterpoint in an impressively sustained finish."

JOHANNISHOF JOHANNISBERGER KLAUS RIESLING SPATLESE 2014
89 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"The pear fruit so familiar from this vintage here takes on a syrupy aspect and is joined on an expansive and silken palate by quince jelly and almond paste. Fortunately, a bright stream of fresh lime serves to counteract any tendency toward excessive sweetness, and the overall effect manages somehow to avoid awkward bifurcation. The long, buoyant finish is confectionary yet satisfyingly juicy. Time should bring nuance."

JOHANNISHOF RUDESHEIMER BERG ROTTLAND RIESLING SPATLESE 2014
88 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"An almost grappa-like volatility in the nose is accompanied by pear and cherry distillates. An expansive and glycerol-rich palate is slathered with honey and quince preserves, while a hint of fresh lime helps push back against confitured sweetness, and brown spices add invigorating interest en route to a sustained finish. "

JOHANNISHOF RUDESHEIMER BERG ROTTLAND RIESLING AUSLESE 2014
91 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"A heady aroma of overripe pear and pear distillate, quince preserves and honey led me to anticipate a stronger sense of volatility than what fortunately emerged. Syrupy pear, quince jelly and marzipan acquire cooling and juicy refreshment from an influx of fresh lime on a glycerol-rich, expansive, buoyant palate. Rum raisins and candied lime peel add fascination in a long, at once soothing and stimulating finish. High acidity is not noticeable as such, but is certainly the main reason why this high residual sugar Riesling picked at well into B.A. must weight nevertheless comes off as animating and Auslese-typical."
JOHANNISHOF RUDESHEIMER RAMSTEIN RIESLING TROCKEN 2014
90 points, David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2016
"If you have never heard of this site you are in good company including with me. But it has ancient pedigree as part of todays Roseneck, and is now registered. A bit gentler slope and deeper soil are suited to higher yields and lower must weights. A whiff of mothball accompanies scents of peach. Fresh lime enlivens a buoyant, juicy palate, while pithy stoniness and a lick of salt lend invigorating and mouthwatering interest in a sustained, ringingly clear and refreshing finish."
